Which is better, a hotel or a bed&breakfast/Inn?

My bf and I are deciding on where to stay when we go to Salem, MA for vacation. We’re doing like a Friday through Sunday deal. We’re looking to go inexpensive, but not trashy. We’re going sometime in Feb of 09 or May of 09. So, which is better a B&B or Hotel and why, please? Thanks!
